Biography
One of the greatest British landscape watercolourists of the 19th century, Peter de Wint, whose father was of Dutch extraction, was based in London and Lincoln. He spent his summer staying with various patrons, teaching and painting.
His distinctive panoramic watercolours are painted with a masterly wet touch and he developed a technique of building layers in the notoriously difficult medium. He exhibited regularly throughout his career and his work is found in all major drawings collections.
