Jubilee Fever

Country Life wrote about our Felix Kelly oil on paper of Westminster Abbey for their 125th anniversary issue. Huon Mallalieu commented that,

‘Felix Kelly (1914-94) began his career in advertising and after war service in the RAF, turned to painting. He specialised in portraits of country houses with accuracy, but a slight touch of Surrealism. That formula gives his 13 ½ inch by 12 inch 1953 coronation view of the west front of Westminster Abbey a frisson that elevates it above the conventional’.

The work was commissioned by the Dunlop Rubber Co. Ltd. to celebrate the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II and it was used in various magazines at the time.
